Spritz On One Of My Favorite Delicious Summer Scents

Viva La Juicy, Prada Candy, The Body Shop Coconut Body Mist

FINALLY, my favorite season is just about here. Summer is by far my favorite time of the year, I get so happy when we’re not trapped in the house and can go¬†play outside in the warmth and sunshine! When getting ready for an afternoon at the park with Kapena, Kai and Toby, I love throwing on a cute sundress, and finishing off with a spritz of my favorite Summer scent. It’s the perfect set up for my perfect day. ūüôā

Prada Candy Perfume

I’m kind of the odd ball out when it comes to my perfume preferences, I’m really not into anything floral at all! I’m all about those warm, delicious sweet smells. Not like a strait up cupcake though, so don’t worry. Here are my favorite three Summer Scents!

Prada Candy

As you can see by the fact that I maybe only have like, three uses of this perfume left, I have used it to death. That’s true love when you finish a perfume in under a year. It smells so sexy and warm, but still subtle and sweet at the same time. Without fail, I always get compliments when I wear this! When I’ve got clients for my freelance makeup artistry, this is what I wear because I know I’m going to be all up in their grill. They almost always ask what I’m wearing because they think it smells so good! Go give this a sniff, I think you’ll love it as much as I do.

The main notes are Caramel, Musk, Vanilla, and Benzoin.

Waaah! I’m almost out of this one too! Viva La Juicy has a lot of sentimental value to me. it’s the perfume that Kapena bought for me on our honeymoon, four. years. ago. I can’t believe we’ve been married that long! Anyway, back to why I love this one so much. Compared to Prada Candy, Viva La Juicy has more notes of berry and sweetness. It still has that delicious warmth that I die over, but is a little more on the fresh end of the spectrum because there are a few floral notes in the mix as well!

The main notes are Wild Berries, Mandarins, Honeysuckle, Gardenia, Jasmine, Amber, Caramel, Vanilla, Sandalwood, Praline.

The Body Shop Coconut Body Mist

The Body Shop Coconut Body Mist

You know when you smell something and it just transports you back to memories that you have? That’s what The Body Shop’s Coconut Body mist does for me. Oh my gosh you guys, this just smells like the most delicious, pure coconut. It reminds me of when I was kid and my mom would slather me with sunscreen before we headed to the water park for the day. Don’t worry, it doesn’t smell like sunscreen though, it’s just what it reminds me of for some reason. Because this is a body mist rather than a perfume, it’s a lot more light in scent because it doesn’t contain any alcohol in it. If you don’t like wearing perfumes because you find them overwhelming, go for a body mist from The Body Shop. They smell so light and refreshing and have some many natural and yummy smells to choose from!

What are your favorite scents to wear when the weather gets warm?

Dressing The Bump | Week 23

Top | Called To Surf Boutique

Maternity Jeans | ASOS

Sandals | Called To Surf Boutique

Bag | Michael Kors¬†(Here is a What’s In My Bag? post!)

Rings | Forever 21

Today when Kai and I were standing in the bathroom, I pulled up my shirt to check out my massive bump and Kai goes, “Mom! You’re soooo big!”. Luckily I take that as a compliment because when I was pregnant with my Bug, my belly was always on the smaller side. He was only 6 pounds 9 ounces when he was born, so I’m thinking that because this baby girl of mine is making me so much bigger, I might actually have a chunky monkey! Kai has always been my little skinny mini, so it would be pretty fun to have a little squish! ūüôā

Being bigger earlier also means being a lot more uncomfortable earlier. I need someone to send me a chiropractor, stat! I’ve got a pinched nerve in my lower back that is making me hurt a lot. I saw this picture of this pregnant lady sleeping with her belly in an inner tube and I am seriously considering doing the same. Being able to sleep on my stomach would make me so freaking happy right now. I may have to send Kapena to the store with the following shopping list: Caffeine free Mountain Dew, Hostess cupcakes, Stouffers mac and cheese, and an inner tube.

Little girl is such a night owl like her big brother. Just as I start to get worried that I haven’t felt her much throughout the day, bedtime comes and she decides it’s time for some hardcore gymnastics. But what would my life be without kids that keep me up until all hours of the night!

Gosh, I love my kids so much. Kai is literally my best friend in the entire world. He tells me at least 29 times a day that he needs to give me a hug and a kiss that is followed by the sweetest, “I love you, Mom”. He always wants to be near me and to hold my hand. If I ever get sad and start to cry, he starts to cry too and begs me not to be sad which obviously makes me stop to comfort him instead of feeling sorry for myself. He is such a tender little soul and will be the most loving and helpful big brother. I’m so happy that my baby girl will have that sort of brother that she gets to grow up with. I can’t wait to see what she is like, whether she be sassy or quiet, I love her so much and feel so incredibly blessed to be able to love and teach her as she grows up.

Alright, it’s time for me to go to bed, I get sappy when I’m tired, the same way I do on pain meds. Trust me, come see me in the hospital after I give birth and I will tell you how much I love you and that you are my favorite person in the world. Ah, that’s some good stuff they give you in there!

An In Depth Guide To Contouring

I would probably die without contouring. No, I wouldn’t die, I would just look like the Pillsbury Dough Boy. No shame in being a baked goods spokesperson, it’s just not what I want to look like. Pregnancy is not kind to my face, I get so puffy so contouring saves the day!

Pre Contouring, so sad!

If you didn’t already see, I made a video and posted it on my blog showing how to get full coverage on the skin and I quickly brushed over contouring. There was a ton of interest on Instagram on a more in depth tutorial on how to contour, so that’s what we’re going to go over today!

First I want to go over a little of what the purpose of contouring is, there can be a little bit of confusion out there. Contouring is how you create shadows and depth on the face. Because you’re mimicking a shadow, it looks best on most skin tones to use a contour powder that has slightly cool (or gray) undertones. You also want to choose a powder that doesn’t have any shimmer in it. I love to use the Anastasia Contour Kit, the bottom middle shade is the perfect shade for me. If you don’t want to buy the whole kit, you can actually buy that shade called “Fawn” individually.

Let’s go over where to actually contour. Follow this incredibly sophisticated map I made. The areas you should contour are right beneath the highest point of the cheekbones without going past the deepest part of the hollow of your cheek, and the temples and across the highest point of the forehead. I also like to contour beneath my jaw to define things a little, the sides of my nose to slim it out a bit, and right under my bottom lip to make things look pouty. Follow the white areas on the map to see where you should leave nice and bright.

IMG_8945

If you have a problem with your contour turning out sort of patchy, I have the solution for you. Most of the time that happens because you are applying the powder directly on top of your foundation. Powder blends best on top of powder, so before contouring, dust a generous amount of translucent powder over top of the areas you plan to contour. You’ll find things blend a lot easier!

Apply translucent powder before contouring

Last tip before we get started. The angle that you hold your brush is actually super important. If you hold it at a downward angle, you’ll get the contour on the wrong part of your face. Hold the brush at an upward angle so you can get right under that cheekbone and really chisel things out.

Hold the brush at an upward angle

Alright here we go, finally. Using whatever brush you choose, pick up some of the powder you are using and tap off the extra. Always start out slow, you can add to it but its hard to take away. Make this super cute face and start at the top of you ear, buff the color on the underside of your cheek bone moving down towards the corner of your mouth.

I usually like to stop once I am below the outer corner of my eye.

IMG_8969

Once you have your color placed, keep blending and buffing away so there are no harsh lines.

Now that your cheeks are looking hawt, move on to the other areas of the face that are on the map above.

Your face should be looking a lot more slender at this point, thank goodness! If things aren’t perfectly blended, use your brush that you used for the translucent powder with nothing on it, and buff on top of your contouring to make sure everything is seamless.

IMG_8988

My cheek contour usually gets blended down lower than I want it, so I like to sharpen it up a little bit by taking a light colored powder (also in the Anastasia kit) and place that just below my contour in a sharp-ish line to clean things up a bit. Your contour will be a lot more effective if you do this afterwards. In the video, you actually see me taking a beauty blender and powder and actually ‘baking’ under my contour, this works great too if you’ve got a more full coverage look goin’ on.

IMG_8992

And that’s all there is too it guys! It doesn’t have to be so scary, just practice and find the powders and brushes that work best for you and you will become a master of contour!

Add your blush and highlighter (here is a tutorial I did on strobing which shows where to place your highlight) and you’ll look like your features are a lot more pronounced than they are! The power of makeup, amiright?

Hair Care Routine

I hate hair.¬†It’s just not my thing. Most of the time I just chuck it up in a bun and call it a day. But I’ve made a goal to start trying a little bit more and putting in a little bit more effort with my hair, we’ll see how long I can keep that up.

Dressing The Bump | Week 20 Mothers Day!

Happy Mother’s Day to all the Momma’s out there! Let’s get a little sentimental shall we? Being a mom is such a blessing, it is hard, hard, work, but there is nothing better in the world. When Kai was in my belly, I knew I was going to love him so much, but I never ever could have imagined the love and protection I feel over him. UGH I just love being his mom so much, and now I can’t wait to be a Mommy to my baby girl in a little over 4 months.

How To Use Strobing To Accentuate Your Features

How many of us have round, circle faces? How many of us have attempted contouring, and failed miserably? Let’s just assume we all have our hands raised, cause contouring is hard AF. Luckily, the makeup trends are ever in our favor at the moment. Contouring is out, and strobing is in.

Strobing is basically a fancy way of saying highlighting the crap out of your face to accentuate your face shape. When contouring, you’re creating shadows, and bringing back certain areas on your face which makes your face more angular and less round. Strobing is using the same idea, but rather than pushing areas back, you’re pulling areas forward, again, making your face appear to have more shape.

How To Quickly Fix Makeup Mistakes

There’s nothing more frustrating than spending valuable time on your makeup, then making a critical mistake and ruining your masterpiece! Next time this happens, don’t worry! I’m going to show you how to fix the most common makeup mistakes without having to take off your makeup and start over.

Applying too much blush or bronzer!

Ok, this happens to me way too much. I start out nice and slow, building up the color, then BAM! I get too confident and slap on so much pink on my cheeks. It was such a shame that I happened to be wearing blue eye shadow this day.. that made things so much worse.
